About UsAUS-ALL
The Australian Study of Causes of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in Children (AUS-ALL) was a national, population-based, multi-centre case-control study funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council. AUS-CBT
Childhood brain tumours are the second most common childhood cancer after leukaemia, and are the leading cause of cancer death in children. The Australian Study of Childhood Brain Tumours (AUS-CBT) is a 5 year, national case-control study that is investigating the causes of brain tumours in children. Embryonal tumours are a specialised group of cancers that affect very young children. Although each type of embryonal tumour is quite rare, combined they account for approximately 20% of all childhood cancers.
Nutrition and Genome Health in Children Study
There is growing evidence in adults that a lack of key nutrients may lead to a decrease in the health of our DNA, which in turn leads to more serious health problems. Despite decades of research, little is known about the causes of childhood cancers, apart from some specific genetic conditions which together account for only a small proportion of cases. Evidence for a link with greater than expected fetal growth is accumulating.
This body of work uses population-based linked health data to investigate whether the incidence of childhood cancers has increased in Western Australia over the last 40 years.
