Channel 7’s Telethon is the most successful fundraising event per capita in the world. Telethon 2006 continued to break records, when at 9:15pm the grand total ticked over at $3,217,437.

As a major beneficiary of Telethon, from everyone at the Institute, a big thank you to all West Australians who donated and the volunteers and sponsors - without your support we could not continue our important research programs in child health.

Again this year, the live broadcast took place at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre where one of the pavilions was transformed into the Telethon Kids Carnival. The Kids Carnival gives our researchers and staff a fantastic opportunity to mingle with members of the community and showcase our research. Kids, mums, dads and Channel 7 personalities were able to conduct pen chromatography and strawberry DNA extraction experiments, test their hand strength and accurately measure their height and weight.

A competition for visitors to our booth was a big hit and we would like to thank AQWA and Adventure World who generously donated the prizes. Congratulations to the prizewinners - Michael and Sue Bateman-Cole of Success (AQWA family pass) and Janet Richardson of Innaloo (Adventure World family pass).

The Institute would like to extend a big thank you to Pathwest, for the generous donation of a microscope, a fantastic contribution to the Institute’s exhibition at the Telethon Kids Carnival and also a valuable addition to the Institute’s school excursions program.

Thank you Channel 7 for your continued support and thank you Western Australia.
